The year 2010 was designated by the United
Nations
as the International Year for the
Rapprochement of Cultures, and it is to be noted
that 2010 also marks the end of the Decade for the
Culture of Peace. UNESCO, as the world forum and
UN lead agency for the rapprochement of cultures,
has a very special status in eliminating unfounded
and irrational phobia about divine religions, which
is considered as a significant obstacle to dialogue
and rapprochement. The IOC Groupe in UNESCO
with the coordination of the Delegation of the
Islamic Republic of Iran to UNESCO has decided to
hold an intellectual round table on the Role of Islam
in the Rapproachement of Cultures with the
participation of well-known scholars from diferent
parts of the world in order that this important
scrutiny and
concept could undergo closer
appropriate solutions could be found to this
problem
